National Waiters Day 2018

Today celebrates National Waiters Day 2018 – an annual event to promote the hospitality industry and encourage job seekers to find out more about working in Front of House Food Service.

I popped along together with our Starlight Bear to soak up the atmosphere and support this great campaign.

In London the event is held in Hyde Park, with employers having stands to recruit for their vacancies and give job seekers the opportunity to find out more about their opportunities. The main event is the infamous National Waiter’s Day 100m dash, where both skilled and unskilled ‘waiters’ carry a tray with a glass and bottle of water balanced on it. They have to cross the finish line without dropping the glass or spilling any water.

What is National Waiters Day?

National Waiters Day is the national campaign that celebrates the food and service industry. The campaign founder is Fred Sirieix and is run in partnership with  The Springboard Charity. Other supporters and sponsors include Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Caterer.com and Bunzl.

The day is put together to celebrate the wealth of talent in the food and service industry – from fine dining waiters, mixologists through to baristas and is a fun day for all to get involved with. The campaign is run nationally throughout the UK.
